Testimonials from SCAP participants:
Jen Chia (Batch5): SCAP has given me proper guidelines to help me achieve and improve my standard of professionalism as a swimming coach. I am better equipped with the knowledge of teaching strategies, methods of approach and communication skills to teach programs for much younger children, helping them achieve and develop confidence in water. The attachment sessions and continued mentorship with my mentors also give me the opportunities to unstudy and gain hands-on experience.
Ivan Lee (Batch5): Through the SCAP, i was able to learn various methods of teaching swimming strokes to different age groups, such as 3-5 yrs old, 5-15 yrs old, and adults. The learning experience was further brought into action during the attachment where i was exposed to different teaching scenarios and got hands-on coaching experience. there was also plenty of guidance from the head coach, Dicxon, who shares hisexperience and knowledge with us freely. Now, as an active coach, i still apply the skills that i have learnt from this course and they are very effective.
Brenda Eng (Batch7): The lessons were compact and well-organized. Two hours of theory and two hours of practical lesson was just the suitable arrangement. Palo has proven to me that it is indeed the professionals in lifesaving and aquatics operations.
The main objectives of the course were met and it was soon put to action by allowing me to have the opportunity to start my attachments the week upon completion of four lessons. This made me understand what was taught even better and helped me a lot in my understanding. Excellent notes were also given every lesson and this speeds up the progression in class. We were also given adequate attention as the class size was small and the discussion time was long enough.
I am very impressed by how the course could teach me so much within such a short period of time. From policies of Palo to understanding young learners and not forgetting stroke refineries and how to go about coaching and many more. Having a friendly and responsible mentor made all these happen.
Dicxon Lee was our mentor and I feel that he is responsible and committed to teaching, easy to approach and confident. He is a cheerful individual and has a positive attitude in swimming. With this, I would strongly recommend others to join Palo as a swimming coach associate as this is one big family. With the help of other potential coaches and the management, it will definitely stand Palo in good stead in the future.
